I have the same question! I would like to keep it but I
hate that it opens with other MS programs, especially
when I am trying to work, people can see that I am on,
it's almost an invasion of privacy...help somebody!!
If I have to choose between it being automatic or getting
rid of it all together, then it will be the latter hands
down!

Greetings Mia,

There's a number of things that could automatically start it.

Firstly, for Outlook (XP/2002), just open Outlook, click the Tools menu, then Options, then
the Other tab, and uncheck 'Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook'. For Outlook
Express, close Outlook Express, and run this .reg file:

To stop Norton Antivirus 2003 from running Windows Messenger, open Norton Antivirus (Right
click on
the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
and click OK.
