Hi Spike,

I have the exact same problem! I have spent hours upon
hours with a couple of my friends trying to make
adjustments to my router/firewall settings to get voice
working smoothly. Just as I think we have it working
well - that is two of us with linksys routers are able to
talk - the following day I get a situation where no
matter what I do, the audio from my XP Pro machine does
not transmit!

In fact, I have isolated the problem to the computer
itself. I have tried both windows messenger and MSN
Messenger 6.

I have had this working perfectly 2 days ago with all of
the appropriate port forwards and upnp is also
communicating ports with the Internet gateway.

I even removed the router and connected directly to the
DSL Modem - same result - my audio does not transmit!
Video, text, file transfer, and audio from the other
party works perfectly.

Using my laptop with Win2000 Pro works fine.

I have ran all audio tests, I can hear the mic audio when
I enable the mic playback, and the mic levels move in
messenger when connected.

This is a frustrating problem. What can cause this?

Can anyone clue me in?

Thanks

Spike

Well I see that I am not alone. I did fire up yahoo messenger and the audio
works OK (both directions). I fell that the computer might not be the
culprit since the yahoo test went OK. Any thoughts on that one? I have XP
on the laptop also (similar problem). (BUT) The laptop can talk to my
desktop but not to other contacts. The desktop can NOT talk to the laptop
or anybody else. The deeper I get into this the more trees pop up in the
way of the forest.

I have marked your message and will track it,

Thanks

Spike

Exactly the same problem here LightLee.

It is driving me nuts - I have spent hours installing different versions of
Messenger, rolling back to settings I had a month ago, tinkering with fire
wall settings (disabling them completely!), and people STILL cannot hear a
word I say... my green mic bars bounce up and down just like normal, but
no-one can hear me...

AAARRRGGHHH!!!

Just to say, I UNINSTALLED (not just disabled) ZoneAlarm, and this fixed the
problem. The person I was communicating with also had to install version
6.0.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

I have noticed that with ZONE ALARM that disabling does not work sometimes.
You must correct the settings in zone alarm as the settings go with the
application even when zone alarm is disabled. I had an application blocked
and disabled (turned off) zone alarm and problem continued. I correct the
settings so the application was NOT blocked and it worked with zone alarm
off on on.

Found a problem with the audio.

I removed the check from the QoS Packet Scheduler (local area connection)
This enabled audio in both directions

AAAH! Me2 exactly the same problem, tried everything. I'm
using a linksys upnp router BEFSW41 with newest
firmware: 1.45.3, May 22 2003. Does anyone already have
a solution?

I have exactly the same problem, the firewall is set at low and I see the
green fuel gauge next to my video image working but no sound going to the
recipient. Bob Vanderaegen
