messenger pop-ups

I have the same problem with messenger service and those
pop-ups. I have read four different ways to stop these
pop-ups. I've tried one way by disabling it through the
control panel, but it only work for the time I'm on the
computer. When I get back on or reboot the computer their
back up. What is the for sure way to get rid of these.
I'm running XP and have Aol svcs.
