Hello,
I have a problem with WinXP (Home) Disk Cleanup tool.
Everytime I try to use it as part of my PC's normal
maintenance routine, Disk Cleanup hangs the system
requiring me to manually shut down and cold boot my PC.
I start the Disk Cleanup tool (manually or as a task) and
it runs fine until the file compression step at the
beginning of the cleanup process, and then it hangs.
This happens every time without fail.
I have the latest updates applied to my WinXP (from the
WinXP Update Website). The harddrive is 60GB in size,
with about 13% of it being used and only one partition
(C: Drive).
I don't have this problem with my laptop using WinXP
(Professional) with a 40GB harddrive, but it is
partitioned into two drives of equal size (C: and D:
Drives). I noticed a similar problem with my Norton
AntiVirus during Full Scan, where it hangs once it
reaches the /i386 folder in the WinXP system folders. I
think that the Disk Cleanup seems to hang when it reaches
this same area.
I would appreciate please any assistance, suggestions or
resolutions to this problem, especially from the
Microsoft technical support folks.
Thanks.
