View Full Version : MSN6 Preview and filesharing

Hi, Anyone have any ideas why the new file sharing feature would work on
one computer (my desktop) and not on another (laptop)?
All other features work fine, games, file transfer, etc. I've been fighting
with it for quite some time now and have had no luck so far.
Thanks in advance
Glen

Greetings Glen,
Most of the other "Games" use Flash or straight HTML -- your Internet Explorer security zone
settings might not be set properly for File Sharing to work. To reset them, open Internet
Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Security tab, click Internet
(should already be selected), click the Default Level button, and then click OK.

sighhhhh... I have tried that... I tried the least secure settings
available. I will try it again though... this time with a reboot, maybe I
didn't do that last time.
Thanks for your response Jonathan.

Hi Glen,
If you still have the problem, what exactly is happening (error messages, blank boxes, etc.)?

Jonathan,
Sorry for the delay in replying, somehow I missed this response.
Basically, one of two things happens, in both instances I get a box on the
right with the file sharing displays. It just sits there saying "Waiting
for User to connect".
It looks exactly like the one at this link:
http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/AppDirectory/P4Apps/FileSharing/en/fileSharingCtrl.htm
On other occasions I get a script error dialog box. It says:
Line 9
Char 2
Error. Unable to create the Shared or (and) Download directory.
Code. 0
Url.
http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/AppDirectory/P4Apps/FileSharing/en/fileSharingCtrl.htm
(I am assuming line 9 is in the webpage source, line 9 contains the
following: obj.External= window.external)
There is another user who had posted who had the same symptoms, I don't
think he has been able to correct his either.
In troubleshooting I have tried completely uninstalling my firewall,
bypassing my router by connecting directly to my cable modem, setting IE
security settings to the lowest possible settings, and several complete
reinstalls of MSN Preview. I had previously installed 2 or 3 of the
"leaked" versions but I don't know if that is relevant or not. It has never
worked on my laptop. It works flawlessly on my desktop with no tweaking
required at all.
Sorry this is so long... trying to give you as much info as possible. And I
truly appreciate your interest and assistance.
Glen
