I had the same problem but found the solution, so far,
(had no popups in 24 hrs.) in one of their FAQ's. I have
XP so it may be a little different for the other OS's.
First go to start and then to control panel, click on
networks and internet connections, click network
connections, right click the conection you are using to
access the internet and click properties. A small window
with the local area connection properties will open. You
should see the tabs General/Authentication/Advance, click
the advance tab. Check the box that says, Protect my
computer and network by limiting or... Click OK and that
should do it. Like I said, so far no popups, it seems to
have solved my prob. I hope this will help you all.

Greetings,
Of course by turning on this option, you will no longer be able to send files through
Messenger (among other things).

so..Microsoft puts a program on your computer (when you get windows
xp) that allows others to spam you without telling you anything about
it? Does this "message service" or whatever have a legit purpose?

Hi Chris,
Actually this service has existed since Windows NT (what Windows 2000 and XP are based on),
it's only been in the past 10 months or so, that it's been exploited.
The purpose of the service is to notify users on a network about problems (ex. a server being
turned off) -- however, since the Internet is just one large network, this can be exploited
on the public Internet (as it is today).
