My outlook worked fine this morning. I came home from
work and I keep getting this error message: The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the sending(SMTP)
server. When I try to do a test from my email settings
area it says Unable to log onto SMTP. My ISP said it's
not them because I was able to set up an Outlook express
account. What settings should I be using? I have to use
my yahoo account as I can't get to my attbi.com
messages. Please Help.

Being able to create an account doesn't mean anything. OE does not check to
see if its a valid account.
You need to check the settings for the account, to ensure that they're
correct.
The SMTP and POP3 servers should probably be mail.attbi.com (they are on my
system).
Other than that, see:
http://help.broadband.att.com/faq.jsp?content_id=1728&category_id=58
for the rest of the information and settings you need for AT&T Broadband's
mail settings.

How did you know the original poster was referring to OE, not Outlook?

You may be right, Peter. I may have missed the one reference to OE in her
message about the Outlook Express account.

It's not often that I'm right! What I meant, but didn't express myself
very clearly was that although the OP mentioned OE, she also seemed to
be referring to Outlook proper - I was wondering how you worked out
which one she meant.

Again, I mis-spoke. I meant that I misread her reference to OE, not missed
it.
