after upgrading to ver 6, I noticed loosing internet
connection everytime I begin to type in a message to
send. I don't know if there is a relation (conflict) with
Windows messenger because since my broadband connection
is okay, MSN messenger often goes back online
immediately, but windows messenger tries to sign in and
open up. I even still don't know why I got both icons in
my system tray. I prefer the cool interface of MSN vs
windows. Any advise?

Greetings Frank,

Firstly, to stop Windows Messenger from starting and therefore signing you in, open Windows
Messenger, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this program when Windows
starts'. As well, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant
messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and
cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus
icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),
click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

As for the "loosing internet connection", do you just mean your Messenger session is being
interrupted, or is your actual connection dropped (can't browse the web, etc.).

Hello Jonathan,
Thanks for your help so far. Yes,both my messenger
session is interrupted and my internet connection is
dropped. Since I'm using msn messenger instead. How can I
remove the Windows messenger icon from the tray
permanently and not by clicking exit everytime?
