View Full Version : removing old restore files

While trying to restore my computer's previous settings,
I used the System Restore option several times.
This was apparently causing large files to be saved in my
C drive (generally under "\System Volume
Information\_restore..."). Now, my C drive has very
little space left.
Is it harmless to delete these files? If so, how can I
gan access to them? When I try, a dialog box pops up and
reads, "System Volume Information is not accessible.
Access is denied."
How can I remove these files?

Alvin;
How much space do you have dedicated to system Restore (default and
Max is 12%)
Open System Restore, click "System Restore Settings" on left side.
(look at slider)
That is the % of hard drive space System Restore will expand to.
You do not want to delete the Restore Points from system Volume
Information directly.
Instead:
Open Disk Clean-up, click More Options tab, click "Clean-up" by System
Restore, all but last Restore Point will be deleted.
Or
Go to system Restore, click System Restore Settings, check "Turn off
System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
Then go back and turn on System Restore...this deletes all Restore
Points.
In both cases above Restore Points will be created and the designated
% of hard drive will fill.
