My messaenger loads at startup all the time, and doesn't
appear in the taskbar. I have unchecked the box for
messenger not starting when windows starts, and messenger
is not in the startup folder or listed in startup services
in msconfig. Just wondering if i can uninstall it becuase
it is kind of annoying not knowing when i am online or
not. Thanks

If you are running XP PRO open up "gpedit.msc" from the run menu of your
start button. Then go to Administrative Templates part...then open up
Windows Components. Find Messenger and enable both options to stop it from
running. That's what I did and it worked. I too was annoyed with the memory
usage of the windows messenger. and found this solution on the net.
