View Full Version : Problem with HP CD Writer

All of a sudden I can no longer eject cd's from my HP Read-Write drive if
they are not "burnt". Normally, when I press the eject button I get a dialog
box asking if I wish to close (burn) the cd or just eject it. Now when I
press the eject button, nothing happens.
Regular cd's eject just fine.
TIA

You are probably referring to CDs that are using Packet Writing like Direct
CD Or InCD. You should always eject those disks by using the soft eject
rather than pressing the drive button. Right click the Direct CD (InCD) icon
in the systray and select eject. Check here for more info on packet
writing/UDF format http://www.mrichter.com/cdr/primer/primer.htm

Thanks Harry, the DirectCD eject did the trick.

Yeah the problem with using the drive eject button, as I understand, is due
to packet writing software needing time to write data that it stores in a
vcache to the CD prior to it being ejected. Some drives attempt to eject too
fast as the data is written. This locks up the drive. You can also corrupt
packet formatted CDs by using the hardware eject button. Always do a
software eject.

Have you tried to right click on the drive in your file manager or my
computer and select eject. I find it works when the eject button gets
stubborn.
