I have a problem with a trojan horse virus. I want to just
delete it but it will not delete, it is embedded in the
registry. I have xp home and when I had win98 all I had
to do was format the hard drive and reload it. I have xp
which I had to register and I was living in another state
when I loaded it in. I feel that I can`t format and
reinstall because they would not reconize me and I could
not activate the program can someone contact me to let me
know. the other way would to backup the registry and
delete the virus. but I heard they have hidden files on xp
so you could be screwed anyway when you delete a file
that you did not know because it was hidden.

Richard;
First of all, Activation cares nothing about geography unless you
phone and then only to give you the correct phone number.
Worst case would be a toll free 5 minute call to Microsoft.
See this for more about Activation:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm

Go here:
http://www.symantec.com/search/
Type "Back door sparta"
Search for your particular version of the virus for the appropriate
fix.
