renaming files

Hi,
is there a way to rename files in windows by selecting
the fiels you want to rename and then use a "find and
replace" command so that you could enter a search string
and replace it with the name you want?

There are several utilities available to modify multiple files. One you may
want to try is here:
www.rjhsoftware.com

IF that does not suit do a google search there are lots out there.
