Since installing WinXP,Home,SP1 in November, cannot make it stick on
show icons when opening the control panel. If I change the view to
Icons, on the next boot it reverts to details. Folder Options/view set
to "remember each folder's view settings." Have removed the check and
rebooted and replaced the check several times over the months to no
avail. Must be something stuck somewhere. Does anyone know where
this setting is in the reg or have another explanation?

Hi Miles,
WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

Rick, will probably make the reg change as you suggest , but question
whether that is the cause since it has been occurring since the computer
was first used or shortly thereafter before many programs were installed.
Have qualms as to installing the reg fix as apparently there is at least
one typo:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\Bags]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Group Policy bjects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curren tVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
NOTE THE MISSING LETTER "O" ABOVE IN \GROUP POLICY OBJECTS\.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"**del.NoSaveSettings"=" "
Wondering if there could be additional errors here??? I have notified Kelly.
