We are missing a HIMEM.sys file (among others) and the
advice was given that we need to reinstall windows xp to
our computer. Well, the computer does not recognize (not
boot from) the CD-ROM - so I made boot disks from the
windows site. After inserting the disk 2, the error code
7 comes up. Windows website said to press F7 skip this
particual part of the setup but... to no avail. It still
did not help and we still can not run setup past disk 2.

Can anyone help please? We would like some assitance...
seeing as we are in china with limited mandarine skills...
all help is appreciated.

Please someone.... can you tell me what to do next?

Have you checked in your system BIOS to see wether you can
set the boot sequence to CDROM, A, C or something like that?

Most recent PCs do

Try restoring the missing files using System Configuration utility.
Type 'msconfig' (no inverted commas) in the start menu/run box. Click
on 'Expand File' and you'll be given a dialogue box saying where the
files are to be copied from/to. The HIMEM.sys file will be on your
CD-ROM - although it may be in a compressed .cab file, not sure
without looking myself - and when you find it it goes into
C:\Windows\System32 folder. Hope this helps.
