Greetings Roger,

Before you remove Windows Messenger, is what you're seeing have "Messenger Service" in their
titlebar? If so, what you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not*
Windows Messenger (which are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is
not Microsoft, nor can Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your
e-mail inbox.

To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start,
then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it,
right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then
choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.

Hi Jason,

Exactly what's that supposed to mean?

Hi Jason,

I answer using the same responses on a regular basis, because I've been answering questions
here for over two years. A lot of questions have been asked before and the answers for them
have evolved to be the most accurate, efficient, and easy-to-follow that I can deliver. On a
semi-monthly basis, I do review some of them, and on a regular basis any links I give out are
checked to be working, etc. Why re-invent the wheel everytime?

Well maybe you'd like to completely change your messenger service 'advice'
because it's just downright dangerous! You're lulling people into a false
sense of security. As an MVP, it's your responsibility to be wholly accurate
and, on this issue, you're anything but. People believe you because you have
those three letters after your name, they think that you're the fount of all
knowledge.

Please update that response accordingly. You know what the correct response
should be - I've posted it often enough.

That's all I ask.

Thank you

Hello,

I'm afraid I don't agree that installing a firewall is the proper way to address this issue,
the reasons aren't specifically important here because this issue has been debated to death
here, and I refuse to discuss it anymore (simply don't have the time, and carpal tunnel is
already setting in).

If you have an official complaint, write up something and I'll forward it on to for my MVP
lead to address. Otherwise, newsgroups are a great way to exercise the right to free speech,
so by all means, you can continue adding your opinion (as I encourage anyone to do so).

And by the way, in regards to one of your other posts, this isn't the only group I frequent,
so I would appreciate it if you didn't post something about me personally that you have
absolutely no knowledge about.

So you like lulling newbies into a false sense of security then? Please
enlighten me as to why you disagree. Methinks that carpal tunnel (which
shouldn't be a problem for a boy of your age) is merely a pathetically poor
excuse because you cannot come up with a single credible argument. How can
blocking the ports not be a better solution than masking the problem? Like I
said, I've been dealing with computers since you were in kindergarten. You
were still in Little League when I attained my computing diploma. I cannot
see that you can come up with a single credible argument why masking the
symptom is better than stopping the problem. As I said, do please enlighten
me - I look forward to reading what you come up with.

Free speech yes - downright misinformation, no.

For this I apologise.
