Hi,
I recently had a problem with my Windows XP installation. For some reason,
it failed to start up because it revealed that a certain file (c_437.nls)
was either corrupt or missing from the Windows\system32 folder.
This problem happened many months after I had my system working perfectly.
I tried to copy a fresh file in place of the "c_437.nls" file at the prompt
using the copy command and that did not work.
I subsequently installed Windows again (using another CD rather than mine
since I have it stored with my belongings due to a recent move across the
country - I know that was dumb) and used a different folder on my C: drive
rather than the Windows folder so that I would not remove old settings and
upgraded version of WindowsXP that I took hours and hours to keep current.
I called this new installation folder Window2. On a side note, not sure if
this is a viable work around or not and I don't know if I can uninstall this
new installation at a later time after I may fix my original install. Any
suggestions?
Anyway, once I was able to get inside the system32 folder of my old Windows
installation, I could not delete this file. When I try and delete this file
it states "DATA ERROR (Cyclic Redundancy Check)." Is there a way around
this so that I can copy a good version of this file into this folder and
hopefully reboot to my old Windows installation?
Thanks,
Bob
