Go to START/RUN and type in
cmd
That should leave the Command line box open and you can type in your D:\utility.

Be VERY careful of BIOS flashing. Make sure you have everything backed up before starting.

Posting that was NOT necessary - it was a complete waste of bandwidth. You
cannot flash your BIOS from within Windows and you've not even told us the
make of your board so we can't really help. The Direct X diagnostic has
nothing to do with the BIOS - in fact, you could rip the BIOS chip off the
board and Windows would continue as normal, your problems would begin when
you rebooted (or so I've been told).

I strongly advise, as you don't even know the make of your mainboard (and it
sounds like your computer is a proprietary build -
HP/Compaq/Dell/Gateway/Sony) that you contact the vendor and/or manufacturer
and you do NOT attempt to do anything yourself. If you do and it fails, and
the computer is under warranty, you will render that warranty null and void.
You cannot flash the BIOS from within Windows, you must do it from a
specially prepared boot disk.

A quick Google search (which you could easily have done yourself) has
revealed that you have a PC Chips board but, as there are seven boards with
that as a code, I cannot tell you which you might have. If you visit here
http://www.pcchipsusa.com/productpcchipsecssocketA.html#pcchips, you may
recognise your board. If not, I do NOT recommend you do anything, but that
you have a technician - or PC-savvy friend - identify your board model and
perform the update.

Speaking about a waste of bandwidth ! You put your foot in your mouth this
time. Sure , you can flash your bios from within Windows . Msi and probably
other board manufactures have a utility do exactly that. And it works great.

The main point that Cass made is very important. If you don't know what you
are doing, don't mess with the BIOS! I don't mean this as a put down to
anyone - the fact is that if you don't flash properly it will result in a
useless pile of junk.
