I always back up my Outlook.pst by burning it to a cd.
Now, I keep getting "Cyclic redundancy error" - I have
run chkdsk, I have also run the little utility to repair
the "pst" file. I have moved the "pst" file to another
location on the harddrive, I have zipped it, nothing
helps. I still get the "Cyclic redundancy error" when I
attempt to take the file off the CD. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try running the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) on the backup file, you can
find that in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
It may be able to recover some parts of your pst mail file.

I know that PST files can corrupt for no apparent reason.
Also be aware that the PST must NEVER go over 2gb in
size, unless Outlook 2003 lifts this that is. I assume the
PST file is also won't open on your hard disk ?

You need to use the SCANPST tool.
If you search , it should be in your Office, Common
Files somewhere. Use this and let it create a backup of the
PST file. It can take a while and I have actually seen zero
errors found and fixed but the problem PST file magically
opens up afterwards ! Give it a try.

By the way, I have a USB pen storage device and have
a Briefcase item for my Outlook PST and have so far
never had a copy or corruption problem (just lucky I
guess!)

Good luck.
