Trouble with DX9 and XP

I'm not sure what's wrong, whenever I try to install
Direct X9 on my computer, it says 'An internal error
occurred, please refer to directx.log in the Windows
directory', but there is no directx.log, anywhere! does
anybody know what's wrong?

It says I have DirectX 8.1. If that's the case, why can't
I update it? Also, I'm using XP Pro, and I'm NOT a system
admin

Problem solved, you answered yourself. need to be system admin to download that one.

DANG! is there any way to bypass the admin stuff? the
computer admin is away, and I can't log onto him to
download DX9...

Next time admin is away -- make sure he/she gives someone else rights to do
admin activities
