I used to have windows 2000 and to encript a file all I
would have to do is right click on the file and click on
properties and then advanced and then encript file...on
windows xp when I try to do that the encript file option
is grayed out and I have no access to it...any ideas???

Susan;
You must be using Windows XP Pro and not Home.
You must be using NTFS and not Fat32.
You must Disable Simple File Sharing:

There are differences in EFS with Windows XP such as no default
Recovery Agent.
EFS is very good at what it does and there is no back door.
