uninstalling software, which was on pc before installing xp

I just got windows xp, when i installed it, it did not say i needed to uninstall my norton antivirus 2004 first. After installing the xp, i cant use the antivirus, and keep getting message to uninstall it and reinstall. When i try to do that thru the add/r
emove it doesnt do a thing. Helppppppppppppp im getting frustrated. Thanks

Go to the Norton Symantec site and look this problem up. They have a fix for
it there. Sorry I can't recall the exact location but it is in the
troubleshooting area.
