Print problem

Does anyone know why we can't cancel a print job? The dialogue box
appears, reports that it is either deleting or cancelling but it keeps on
printing. Turning off the printer doesn't stop as soon as you turn it back
on the printing continues. Shutting down the computer and printer is the
only way. This only occurs with XP. We have the latest printer drivers.
