Solution: You have bad RAM! i can bet you thats the
problem. Buy a new stick of RAM to put in the machine,
and make sure you only have one stick of RAM in when
trying to install Windows.

Strange, the RAM used to be good until I installed XP.
Let's assume you're right : is there any way to check the RAM ? during boot
process, no warning occurs.

BTW, why "make sure you have only *one* stick of RAM" ?

Both questions answered here.

the one stick of RAM amkes one since but it works. i have=20
had more than 15 e-mails from ppl who this help install=20
XP. After the install you can insert another DIMM and not=20
have any problems.

Memtest86 - http://www.memtest86.com/ can test your memory=20
for you. although i had a stick that was bad and memtest=20
did not say anythign bad about it.

Thanks for the additional info. I was confident enough in what you suggested
to go out and buy a replacement DIMM before I got you response, anyway. I'll
leave the RAM replacement for tomorrow (must have rebooted 100 tines
today -got tired) but I'll let you know if it did the trick.

Congratulations, you guessed it right. Memory at fault. MemTest86 confirmed
the verdict.

Thanks again

If you live in my neighborhood (Lille, northern France), I'd like to treat
you a beer. That's the least you deserve.
