I am trying to restore a backup file I made using
Microsoft Backup on a PC using Windows 98 SE onto a new
PC using Windows XP Home Edition. Win 98SE backs up into
a file with a .qic extension while Win XP looks to
restore files with a .bkf extension. I cannot open or
restore my backup file with the .qic extension. Is there
any way to do this or are the two different backup
formats incompatable? Thanks!

There is no support natively for backups made using the Windows 9x backup
tools in Windows XP
see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=305381

You may be able to use other third party tools.

You might try Stomp BackUp MyPc. It's backups use the QIC extension. A
thirty day trial version is available so it'll cost nothing to try. The
interface looks just like Windows 9x backup utility.

I backed up 'all' of my files using the win98se backup on
my second harddrive. Now I find out that XP can't read
the .qic files. Can you tell me what third party software
might be available and from whom??
