Scandisk is now Error-checking.
Open My Computer, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Right click your hard drive/Properties.
On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now.
Under Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.
You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

On the Tools tab, under Defragmentation, click Defragment Now

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Are you sure you don't have them now? Right click on your C drive, select
properties, then tools. You should see check disk and defrag. Scan disk is
not used in XP.

Diskeeper Lite is an enhanced version of the standard Windows XP
defragmenter. I would suggest using it instead of XP's.
