Screensaver - Shutdown?

On my Parents comp (XP - Home) when the screensaver comes it, it all fine. When I get the screensaver to go away, it goes to the login screen! I have no clue why it does that. Please help. Hate to be mean, but it acts like its retarted!

right click an open space on the desktop
properties
screensaver
uncheck..on resume display welcome screen
