i still havent got this email thing figured out
yet....you see i get incoming mail and when i go to look
at it it automatically opens up when i click on it i dont
have to double click it like yahoo..and if i delete the
letter im looking at it automatically goes to the next
letter and opens it up before i can even stop it so if i
got a virus in anything im screwed. and i dont know how
to stop it from opening up unless i want it too...i hope
i explained it better this time if not ill try again.
thanks again

Open the tools/options menu and you'll find check boxes to
set all these functions the way you want them. Look at all
the tabs.

There's several different ways to setup OE to protect yourself. Here's a
few that you might find helpful:

The default security settings are already in your favor:
- Tools> Options> Security> Restricted site: blocks may scripts and
activeX controls contained in emails
- Tools> Options> Security> Block attachments in emails that may contain
a virus

One that I've implemented in Outlook Express is turning off the preview
pane. View> Layout> uncheck the box for Preview. Instead of having the
mail automatically displayed, all I see is a list of emails and the name
of the senders. I delete all of the ones that I know are advertisements.
When finished, I can read what's left.

You can customize the toolbar in Outlook Express by adding a Preview
button. A quick click turns off preview (for deleting mail you know that
you don't want to read). Another quick click of that button and you can
read the other mail in that nice handy preview pane.

When deleting the contents of your Deleted Items folder, you can avoid
accidentally previewing an unwanted email if you only do a right click
on the folder (no left click to select!) and choose Empty Deleted Items.

Go to View>Layout and disable Preview Pane.
It is dangerous to have this option checked without an updated AntiVirus
protection, especially with some virus that execute only by viewing an email
mesage.
