View Full Version : Need More Hard Disk Space on Primary Drive - Running Windows XP

I have a Sony computer with a 120mb hard-drive that is
running out of disk space on the C: drive. I have plenty
of space on the D: drive. The computer came with the
software preinstalled, including Windows XP, which is
still the only operating system installed. The problem
is only 10GB were allocated to the primary drive (drive
C) and it is running out of space. In order to make more
space, I have moved all of my data to D drive and have
begun installing all new program there as well. Is it
possible to change the partions/allocation, without
reformating the drive, so I can take space away from
drive D, which is a logical drive with drive C as the
host (the computer only has one physical hard drive)?

"Partition Magic" will do this for you. There might be a way to do it in
WinXP alone but I've never tried.

Hi,
WinXP's drive tools cannot actively resize partitions, you would need a
third-party partitioning utility to do it non-destructively. Partition work
can be hazardous if not handled properly, and even if it is done right
things can still go horribly wrong. Backup and critical data and encryption
keys before you begin.
Partitioning programs:
BootIT NG www.terabyteunlimited.com
Partition Magic www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic
Partition Commander http://www.v-com.com/product/pc_ind.html
Ranish Partition Manager http://www.ranish.com/part/
