Moving files to 2nd hard drive

I need to move my Program Files to a second Hard Drive(D)
to make room on my original C drive. What is the safest
method I can use to accomplish this. When I try to move
the folder I get a warning that if I move the folder some
programs might not work. Can I move contents of Program
Files(C) to new Program Files(D) or do I need to
reinstall everything?

The registry entries for your programs will still point to the original
