During the boot up process this message faithfully
appears:

CMOS/GPNV CHECKSUM BAD
PRESS F1 TO RUN SETUP
PRESS F2 TO LOAD DEFAULT VALUES AND CONTINUE

Pressing F2 will get windows to load. The only problem I
see is that the date and time revert to June 26, 2002
(the date the chip was programmed?)at around 12:00.

Why am I getting this error and what is the fix?

Hi Aaron,

Sounds like a bad CMOS battery.
