In the new connection wizard in Network Connections, I try
to set up via the following path: Connect to the Internet,
Set up connection manually. This takes you to the screen
with three options, the first two of which are grayed
out. I need the second one, i.e., connect to broadband
using user name and password.

There is a KB article -- 320558 -- that gives two options
for curing this. If the first one doesn't work -- which
it didn't -- the second one says to do an in-place upgrade
of XP. I do NOT want to do this.

Does anyone know of another solution? I have worked
around it by connecting through a router, but I would like
the option of connecting directly from the modem to the
computer.

Thanks.
