After installing the Intel/Shiva NetStructure VPN client
and rebooting the system gives a messaging stating that
the tcp/ip network transport is not installed and
internet access is no longer possible.

The computer is a Dell Latitude laptop in a docking
station with a 3com 3c920 nic, McAfee viruscan 7.02 is
also installed. Everything was working fine prior to the
installation of the VPN client.

I've tried multiple methods of resetting tcp/ip, netsh,
reinstalling nettcpip.inf, removing the network adapter,
removing the laptop from the docking station all to no
avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

thats a verry interesting problem. i was under the impresion that windows xp
wouldn't allow you to uninstall the tcpip. it apears you went thru the
steps to reset it and didn't note any errors. that makes me think it is
there but the program you intstalled might have corupted it.

try removing the network card (if possible) and trying this
1) Uninstall the TCP/IP protocol as best you can. If you get grumbles about
it being needed for TCP/IP basic services and Unix print services, both of
those can be uninstalled from the Windows components section of the
add/remove software utility.

2) Using RegEdit, back up and then remove the following keys:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock2

3) Reboot

4) Reinstall the TCP/IP protocol in the usual way.

it maybe that the other thing you tried in efect did this but it might be
worth a try.
