This does not help. I already tried the Win XP
Utilites. Yes, the tool bars are missing but I do not
even get a menu to view toolbars. I can set the display
options, but I have to right click. I do not have a
problem with Windows Eplorer or IE Explorer. It is in
all the other folders including the control panel. Wish
I could post a picture of this problem. No menu
displayed at the top. Just a bar with the name of the
folder. Thanks for trying though.

Jil,
Ok, I don't understand your reference to "other folders", since I don't know
of any way to view folders other than in Windows Explorer. But, you can try
repairing this manually. Close any open IE and/or Windows Explorer windows
(this includes Control Panel). Go to Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
Look in each of the 3 subkeys, Explorer, ShellBrowser and WebBrowser.
Locate the entry for ITBarLayout Right click this value and select Delete.
This won't hurt anything, it will just reset the toolbar/menubar settings to
their default values the next time you open one of these windows.
Explorer affects Windows Explorer
WebBrowser affects Internet Explorer
ShellBrowser is set when the Control Panel window (which is really just an
Explorer window) is closed.

Hi:
Thanks for your posting in the news group but this is
what I am trying to tell people. No menu bar for File,
Edit, View, etc. No options at the top other than the
folder name. Any suggestions? I tried a system restore
from a prior checkpoint but it does not work. I get the
message no changes were made. I have no clue what I did
other than a windows update download and I am not even
sure it happened before or after that.

On the far right of the tool bar, click the mouse until a two headed arrow
appears. Hold down the mouse button and drag the tool bar to the left. A
little tricky to do.
