Email attachments

I cannot send email with an attachment. My provider,
Verizon DSL, checked my settings and everything is o.k.
I get the following message:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject'test',
Account: 'Ed's Mail, Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Srever Response: '421out002.verizon.net
Lost connection to [138.89.154.57]', port: 25, Secure
(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F
