Firewire IEEE 1394 kills Internet connectivity
Excuse the crosspost. This issue has been on many newsgroups,
and the posts there helped me to find MY fix for the problem.
Hopefully this will be useful to those who come along in the
future.

XP by default tries to use Firewire for the communications connection.
Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel then click on Network
Connections. Then Right Click On your Firewire Connection and Disable
it. That should solve your problem.

Thanks for the reminder. That's another "fix" I tried that didn't
work for me. I have added it to the web page.

I have a dolphin 4 port firewire PCI card
and never had a prob with it mucking up
the net connection. Its still enabled too
Hmm click on the firewire icon/properties/TCP/IP
If its set to use the following IP address.
Change it to Obtain an ip address. And under
the alternate config Automatic private IP address.
See if that works
