I bought a new Dell Dimension 2400 computer 2.53 GHz
without a monitor. The operating system is XP. My old
monitor which I intend to keep using is a Pixie 750, about
5 years old. Upon startup, I get a "signal error" on the
monitor, then the monitor shuts off. I am not a computer
expert and can't get past this. Apparently the preset
settings on the Pixie are: Horizontal Synch Frequency 48.3
KHz and Vertical 60 KHz. Can we adjust these settings so
that the monitor will accept the new system? I can't
figure out how. My preference is to not buy a new monitor
if possible. THank you for your help in advance!

G'Day E. Malley,
I Googled a site called"monitor-drivers.com", and for a Pixie Monitor, it
lists 8 drivers all up, and one or two for the 750, that can be downloaded
from the site..
Unfortunately, the latest driver is for Windows 98, and may be incompatible
with Win. Xp, as this may be the source of your problem, or the new pc has
no monitor driver software at all, as it was not part of the deal with Dell
?
I am sure that someone else will correct me very soon it's not.
I would think in any case, it is necessary to down load a monitor program,
usually via a cd so that the p.c. knows how to get friends with the
monitor.
I presume that this pc is not a notebook, so it must be frustrating being
blind, but perhaps if you post again with the wording of error message
itself, the experts here will be better able to assist you.

The error message read SIGNAL ERROR HF: 59.9 KHz VF: 75.0
The Pixie booklet states "display shows this message if
the incoming video signal from the computer is beyond the
frequency range of the PiXie 750". Does this help anyone
figure out a solution for me? THanks!

Your computer is set for a monitor that runs a higher resolution. If you're
not getting anywhere -- not even the bios screens or the beginning Windows
logo, that monitor may never work.

On the other hand, if you're getting as far as the Windows logo, you have a
chance. You can try starting the computer in Safe Mode (bang on the F8 key
as the computer is starting) and you should see a choice to start in Safe
Mode or in VGA mode. Either should work for you. If that works, then you can
go to display properties and see if you can change the settings to something
that your monitor can handle.
