See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Defrag All Hard Disks. There are two
versions of a small VB Script file that will sequentially run the command
line version of Defrag. The second version creates a log file. These
scripts can also be run as a Schedule Task.

You can also purchase the "adult" version of the same program that Microsoft
bought from Executive Software called Diskkeeper. By adult I mean full
featured not having features defeated like the version in Windows. It is not
really that much cost and it will allow you to defrag all drives/partitions
at the same time. It also will let you do it in the background. See their
web site at
http://www.alsos.com/Products/Systemmanagement/diskeeper.html . There are
other defrag programs around but this is the one I use. I am not related in
any way to the manufacturer.

Wouldn't be without it.
You can also use the setting "set it and forget it" which does exactly what
it says.
The XP defrag program was written by Diskeeper for MS, but is just a bare
bones app.
