View Full Version : why won't xp start with welcome screen

My xp pro has five log ons and always starts up in my log on instead of at
the welcome screen. I've gone to start-control panel-user accounts-change
the way users log on or off-and checked the use welcome screen and fast
user switching boxes. All apparently to no avail.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'd love for this machine to
boot to the welcome screen but it consistently boots only to my log on.
Once I'm into my log on I can push the windows button Plus the"L" and go to
the welcome screen and choose any other log on in the normal fashion.
Apparently the welcome screen is working fine it is just not present at boot
up.

Your machine is configured to log on with your account automatically. To
change this click the Start button, select Run and type the following in
the run box:
control userpasswords2
Click the OK button and a different view of user accounts management will
appear. On the Users tab you will see a check box to control this
behavior. Place a check next to "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer." Click Apply and OK. Now when you reboot
the computer will stop at the welcome screen and wait for a user to be
selected and password entered.

If you are using XP pro as your post states you click start, select run and
type in 'controluserwords2'. Win XP home edition uses
'controluserpasswords2'. Note the difference.

Control userpasswords2 works on my HE system. I'll have to find out where I
read the difference from.
