After booting system (Windows XP Pro) I end up with a
blank screen except for the mouse pointer which will
move. Ctl-Alt-Del does nothing - only way to reboot is
via power button. If started in safe mode w/ network
support, still end up with blank screen with 'Save Mode'
in the corners and 'Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build
2600) at the top and the mouse pointer, however, I am
able to access the system via a different PC on the
network. Have attempted to reinstall (repair) Win XP but
no change. What can I delete (ini, cfg, ???) to
reinstall XP desktop - I am assuming that I have a
desktop configuration error somewhere.
Please help!!!

Hi Larry,

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, go
to Processes, find Explorer.exe highlight it and choose End Process.

Keep the task manager open then select the File menu and then New Task
(Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and
press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the
Taskbar and Start button.

Restore the Taskbar and Desktop to Default Functionality (Line 164)
