Hi as most of you will know l am having problems with
sound from my pc............what virus will NOT show up
on your antivirus scan and destroy your sound card? l
have seen some posts refering to this problem but noone
has actually gave it a name. I would like to get my pc
sorted out a.s.p if this is what l might have. Thank you.

If you are using a good anti virus with all updates, it will detect the
virus. I think you may be premature in assuming you have a virus. what probs
are you having with your sound? did you update your sound card driver, look
in the control panel under sounds and audio devices to make sure that the
volume is not muted.

And I don't think that there's really any malicious code that can "destroy
your sound card". Though I'm sure that there are ones that can mess up all
your sound card's software. What makes you think that it's a virus?

The volume control is in about 100 places, be sure to check all the
locations you can. Also if you havent updated your sound driver, do that
too. Do your system sounds play at right volume? Also try uninstalling and
reinstalling your sound card.

I don't believe for one moment you have a virus based on what you've
described here. Would you mind supplying some more details of your system
and what exactly is happening, steps you've take to resolve it so far, etc.

From what you have said in the original post and your reply to Dave, I would
so far suspect a hardware fault or some kind of corruption of your sound
card drivers. Or maybe even a wrong setting; I've seen this happen with some
sound systems where the sound system has been set up to output sound to the
wrong kind of speakers (for example, sound output set for 5.1 dolby surround
speakers when all you have are a simple "desktop" pair of speakers) or where
the speakers have been plugged into the wrong sockets, though I'm sure
you've already checked and double checked which sockets its plugged into.
