As a start, that idea of making the initial and maximum sizes the same,
while it is often touted, is not a good idea. Read up on the subject at

Virtual memory settings aside, you really do need more RAM.

96 mb of RAM is nowhere near enough for reasonable performance with
Windows XP.

You should seriously consider adding at least an additional 256 mb of RAM.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the improvement in overall
performance.
