Hi

Most likely caused by the 811493 update if you have installed it.

811493 is not working good on a lot of computers (MS is aware of this),
and you should remove it using Add/remove Programs in the Control Panel.

If you get a warning that other installs may stop working if you remove it,
just ignore it.

The 811493 fix is not critical really, it is rated as "Important" only by MS.
More here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811493
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-013.asp

e.g. this:
"For an attack to be successful, an attacker would need to be able to logon
interactively to the system, either at the console or through a terminal
session."

I am not going to install this fix on any computer...

Delete it via the Start - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - 811493.
And your performance should be back to normal. Microsoft is supposed
to be looking into the problems.

The slow down is because you have some anti-virus program installed that is
conflicting with the update.

Try disabling autoprotect or whatever of the anti-virus program or uninstall
the update.

I do not have any sort of running anti virus protection, nor are a lot of
people that are having problems. Thanks anyway
