View Full Version : Have I discovered a bug with XP?

I am a programmer for Promised Land Technologies. We make an addin to
Excel called Braincel.
Since Windows XP and XP-pro came out, customers have been telling us
that our addin slows down dramatically after 5 minutes of running.
One of our customers switched his Windows back to Windows 2000, and
there our addin does not slow down at all.
This does not sound like it is our fault. After all, we wrote
"Braincel" for the first 32-bit versions of Windows and Excel. It
worked ever since - until now.
Is there anything about Windows XP or XP Pro that is very different
from other versions of Windows? For instance, how it handles
multitasking?
Thanks,
Marvin

Not that I am aware of, but there are some very strange slowdown
problems associated with Excel-XP (aka Excel2002). Have you tried it
with an old version of Excel (97, or 2000) under XP, or only with the XP
version of Excel??

Greetings --

Then I'd say that is well past due for an update for use with the
newer operating systems, wouldn't you?

We can't update our product to work with Windows XP if the problem is
a Microsoft Bug in Windows XP.

1. Whether or not there's a bug in Windows XP, you're going to have to
update your product to service your current and prospective clients.

2. The programming models have changed going from Win9x to WinXP --
it's much more like WinNT. Can you support this? How about Win2K?

Hi Marvin

I've just downloaded a free demo of Braincel. It seems as though your =
workbooks might have to be reprogrammed in VBE instead of using VB =
macros. You might be better off trying one of the VB/VBE newsgroups.
