when I downlaod skins windows ask what program to use to
open the skin or auto select. Not sure what to do about
and how can I fix this problem.

Go back to the website you downloaded the skins from and follow the
links directing you to the appropriate app that you need.

Two of the more common apps these days are offerings from Stardock and
TGTSoft.

If you download "Visul Styles" (themes) from www.themexp.org you will need
"Style XP" from GTG Soft (www.gtgsoft.com).
