I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would tell me how to
increase the number of open files in XP.

Posting your message three times in 30 minutes (that I've seen) will
just get you plonked. Even worse is you keep changing your name and the
subject of the message...I can only assume you're trying to hide that
fact that you've posted so often.

You need to do a couple of things:

1) Try to explain what exactly are you doing when the error occurs and
the exact error message you're getting.

2) Give the ng participants time to read your message. I don't know what
would be considered an acceptable length of time before reposting but 3
times in 30 minutes certainly is not.

Files open depends upon the coding of the program used to open them..

In the past, as an experiment, I open 50 separate word documents. Is that
enough?

Are you running a DOS program when this occurs? If so you need to add a
line to the Config.sys file that the program is using.

files=80

should do it.
