i keep on receiving these advertisements for websites, one
of them said "if u are reading this message your computer
is leaking your information" so i visited the website to
find out more.. heres what it says..
Congratulations, you've been hit by the newest form of
unwanted advertising, or spam. This message was sent to
your computer through a built in feature that Microsoft
included in your copy of Windows 2000, NT, or XP. These
types of spam messages are worse than unwanted e-mail
since you dont even need to have an e-mail account or web
browser. If you are one of the millions of people who get
unwanted messages like these everyday, there is hope.-
www.Blockmessenger.com

only this website charges, and i'd like to find a way to
block these messager myself, anyone with any information
please email me

Hey Gang,

The small "ShootTheMessenger" Messenger service enabler/disabler
is completed and available for your downloading and testing ...

http://grc.com/miscfiles/ShootTheMessenger.exe

As far as I know, it is completed and working perfectly. (I quickly
found and fixed the reason of its previous odd reporting, which was
a vestige of the code's remaining similarity to its UnPnP cousin.)

If it misbehaves in any way, please let me know in the grc.shieldsup
group ... with which I'll be catching up completely once the app's
companion web page is completed and online.

Thanks for all your testing help and suggestions over the past weeks!

Download Zone Alarm for free. It fixes much more than this.

Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330904 for
instructions on disabling Messenger Service (It's not Windows Messenger).
Takes about 30 seconds to do...

Visit www.grc.com and use shieldup (free) to have your system checked for vulnerable open ports.

Then make sure you have a firewall. I think it's included in Service pack 2. Check that it is on.
