I have posted my question in hopes of help. So since no

>I have two hard drives in my system. After installing=20
XP, my drive is not visible in my commputer. It does=20
show while booting up and also in disk management. But=20
itis telling me the second drive is unallocated. That's=20
where I stored all my data in preparing forthe upgrade.

I have seen post about it needs to partition and=20
formated. So am asking:
1. Is there any way to get my data recovered?

2. Can this be done from disk managment?

3. If not, do I use WinSE or xp and if so does it stay=20
at fat32?

Thank you.

How was the data stored? =20

Was it copied to the drive or did you use the backup program from 98SE?

Was the 2nd HDD in place when XP was installed?

You, of course, have checked that the IDE cable is secure. That the =
jumper is set correctly as slave.

Try unplugging the 2nd HDD IDE cable, boot XP, shut down, reconnect the =
cable and reboot.

Has a drive letter been assigned to the drive?

I presume that you had 98SE on your 1st HDD. This is what I would do: =
reformat the system drive (C) to FAT 32 =BB reinstall 98SE =BB copy the =
data from 2nd HDD to CD RW =BB format C to NTFS during the XP install =
=BB set XP up the way I like it =BB install programs =BB if the 2nd HDD =
is still unallocated format it =BB copy back the data files from CD RW.

It is a lot of work. But if it saves your data it's worth it. I have =
done this very thing in the past. Now I keep my data on a seperate =
drive and back that up to another HDD.=20

That is my best advice to you, because if you format the 2nd HDD without =
saving the data to another type of media it will be lost.

Good luck!
