My computer has stopped working (nothing opens, runs slow,
freezes) so I need to format it, but I lost the Windows XP
CD-ROM or the disc you need for formatting.

If the HP in the subject is supposed to mean Hewlett Packard, then you did not loose the XP CD as it didn't come with one.

Call HP, the do not give WinXP disks. They install the OS in a
utilities folder on your hard drive. My neice went through that, what a
mess.
