My new Dell has a NIS card and Win xp. Can I put a card in my old win
98 system and talk to it? It has IE 6.xx on it. It also has USB. I
want to print to my HP printer from the win 98 system.

Yes. If you are going direct. you need a crossover cable.
Be sure you have identical workgroup names, protocols.
